A-dZiko Simba has worked as a storyteller, writer and performer for more than 25 years. She is an exciting and engaging artist, able to fuse her talents in mime, voice and drama with her love of the traditional art of storytelling in a spellbinding way. Her stories are mainly from Africa and the Caribbean and in her storytelling sessions, she incorporates selections from her repertoire of non-competitive games for adults and children.
A-dZiko wrote and performed with Munirah Theatre Company for ten years in England, and was employed for five years by the Government of Montserrat telling stories and facilitating drama workshops in the countrys primary schools. She also established and ran a series of teachers workshops showing them how to create and tell their own stories and how the art form can be used as a curriculum tool.
In 1996 A-dZiko represented Montserrat at the Third Regional Storytelling Festival in Barbados, she is now a member of Jack Mandora, The National Storytelling Association of Jamaica and she continues to tell stories and run workshops in the Caribbean.
She has, for the last 12 years, been contracted by the Government of Anguilla as a consultant/storyteller for its Childrens Library Annual Summer Programme.
A-dZiko is also an accomplished writer; she has written for BBC Televisions The Real Mc Coy, her poetry and short stories have been featured in several anthologies published both regionally and internationally. Her recent writing assignments include: senior writer for Jamaican radio serial drama, Outta Road, educational video scripts for Ministry of Education, Jamaica and co-writing of teachers guides to accompany a collection of 59 stories for Jamaican secondary school students.
